Technical lead for the "Quest Single Sign-on for Java" product (from Wedgetail via Vintela). It allows Java SE and Java EE (and, if the need arose, Android or Java ME Foundation and above) to participate in Microsoft authentication / SSO systems, both Active Directory and ADFS. Think Kerberos, SPNEGO (and HTTP Negotiate authentication), EJB / LDAP / JDBC... calls with GSSAPI/Kerberos, etc. A cross-platform version for all Java app servers, plus tighter integration for WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, NetWeaver and Tomcat. 95% Java, 5% C (a DLL for Windows fat clients). I was responsible for overall product design and direction, mentoring other developers, Quest internal training and evangelism, product releases, design and some coding. I worked remotely; initially the rest of the group (including my dev manager) was in Australia, later in Utah.

Vintela acquired Wedgetail and was in turn acquired by Quest. Based in the US, I acted as a technical bridge between Wedgetail (Australia) and Vintela (Utah), and also worked on development of Wedgetail's Java SSO product that became Quest Single Sign-on for Java.

I was the US technical presence for Wedgetail, working with the US general manager / sales for all Wedgetail's products (embedded C, J2EE, J2SE, J2ME). Technical evangelism, pre-sales, post-sales support / bug reporting, and continued Java development when possible.

Wedgetail was an Australian startup initially developing security libraries for embedded C, embedded Java, and J2SE. I worked on the Java products, including crypto libraries, PKI, SSL (J2ME and J2SE), Kerberos/GSSAPI and XML DSig.

Worked on Elvin (elvin.org), a high-performance message router implemented in C on multiple OSes, and on a Java implementation of the CORBA Notification Service.

Web front-end to Verity's search engine SDK. Implemented in C for sundry Unix variants and Windows NT. Redesigned the system so that it stopped trying to be its own HTTP server and instead sat behind e.g. NCSA httpd.

Member of Sun's Integrated Media Group, developing a distributed multimedia system in C++. Also worked with early Internet multicast conferencing tools (vat, nv et al; C with Tcl/Tk). Participated in the IETF audio/video transport working group and presented at IETF 28.

Member of Sun's Open Network Computing group, working on YP and NIS+ for Solaris 2.0 to 2.3. Co-author of the Solaris name-service switch. Implemented in C with Solaris threads.
