I'm a scholar of modern and contemporary Latin American cultural studies. My research and teaching experience span 20th and 21st century Latin American cinema, visual culture, and literature as well as all levels of Spanish language. I am currently revising a book manuscript entitled The Visual Guillotine: The Cinematic Cut and the Form of Violence in Latin America, under contract with University of Minnesota Press. My research program also includes a series of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in English and Spanish on topics ranging from theories of post-cinema, the discursive construction of Latin American film authorship, the intersection of cinema and contemporary art, and the performative turn in recent documentary cinema. I regularly organize panels and present at major national and international conferences in my field. I also coordinate conferences, film screenings, colloquia, and lectures with scholars, filmmakers, and artists for academic audiences and the general public.
