My name is Thomas McMath and I am a current doctoral student at the Ohio State University, pursuing a Ph.D. in Greek and Latin. I begun studying Latin in high school, and it was there that I developed a passion for ancient language, culture, and history. At Samford University in Birmingham, I devoted myself to the study of Classics and begun learning Ancient Greek as well as French to have broader access to modern scholarship. After finishing my Bachelor's degree there, I traveled to Tucson, where I got my Master's in Classics at the University of Arizona. Through intensive coursework, assistantships, and teaching, I broadened my knowledge of the ancient Mediterranean and strengthened specific skills and research specializations in Latin poetry of the Roman Republic and Empire.After finishing my Master's degree, I enjoyed the wonderful opportunity to teach Latin, grades 8 through 12, at a K through 12 charter school in Arizona, BASIS Mesa. I continued honing my teaching skills while developing new curricula for my five separate courses. As I begin my doctoral work at the Ohio State University, I pursue deeper and finer expertise in my research specializations, further experience presenting my research in academic conferences, and more experience teaching university courses.
