In the last four year I have worked in childcare, and I have learnt a great deal from my co-workers and managers. Throughout my years as an assistant I was tasked with caring for and providing valuable experiences to the children of the services I worked at. Although, at times there were children that would be uninterested and rude or inappropriate, and throughout my time spent at these types of services I have learnt a number of ways to help support such children, and provide them an opportunity to express themselves, and be able to give them a space where they too can engage with the room in a way that is more suitable for them, without inappropriate actions be taken. Not only have I learnt how to handle challenging behaviors but also how to interact with parents on a more personal and direct level when communicating such issues.As a Coordinator, I have been able to extend on my skills and develop them, so that my actions are my deliberate when it comes to being in charge of an entire room of children as opposed to running an activity with a handful of children. I must manage my time effectively as well as delegate tasks to not only staff but children too, giving children the opportunity to be more heavily involved in the running of an activity.I have also been in charge of large numbers in our holiday programs, we run excursions to different locations which often involves a large number children in attendance to the services on those days and more staff to accommodate, which requires a high level of focus and discipline when managing a service as there is a greater number of issues that could arise.
