About Thomas Mika

In November, 2016 I was appointed EVP & CFO at POET Technologies, a photonics design & development company. POET is positioned to grow rapidly in 2021 with the introduction of the POET Optical Interposer, a disruptive technology and platform for the hybrid integration of photonic and electronic components. Prior to POET, I led the complete restructuring and transformation of a NASDAQ-traded public company from semiconductor capital equipment manufacturer (Tegal Corp.) to medical data analytics (CollabRx), which was later merged with Rennova Health. I have deep experience in corporate restructurings, public and private financings, mergers & acquisitions, and complex, multi-year intellectual property litigation.

POET’s Optical Interposer facilitates the co-packaging of electronics and optics in a single Multi-Chip Module (MCM), paving the way for “Photonics-in-a-package”. Based on our dielectric waveguide technology, the Optical Interposer provides the ability to run electrical and optical interconnections side-by-side on the same interposer chip at a micrometer scale. Hybrid Integrated Photonics Packaging (HiPP) enabled by the Optical Interposer plays a critical role in improving electrical and thermal performance, power consumption and form factor of photonics sub-assemblies. The Optical Interposer currently forms an integral part of POET’s hybrid integrated optical engines and leverages the manufacturing processes and unique capabilities of its dielectric waveguides. • Tegal Corporation
    President & Ceo
    Tegal Corporation Mar 2005 - Jul 2012
    Petaluma, Ca, Us
Tegal Corporation was a pioneer in the semiconductor capital equipment industry. Founded in 1972 and acquired by Motorola in 1978, the company was spun-out as an independent company in 1990, and went public on the NASDAQ in 1995. Throughout the 1990's and 2000's the industry became increasingly concentrated, with semiconductor companies relying on capital equipment suppliers for most of their product and process development. Although recognized as an innovative company with enabling technology, Tegal was competitively disadvantaged in a market that placed a high value on size and scale. Several acquisitions in the early 2000's were made to increase Tegal's scale and diversify its product-lines. Taking over as CEO in 2005, I terminated several of these acquisitions, restructured operations and acquired a division of Alcatel-Lucent, eventually almost tripling the company's revenue and turning it profitable in 2007. Ultimately, however, these efforts succumbed to the financial crisis in 2008/09. The Board made the decision to divest the company of its product and intellectual property assets and to pursue emerging technologies in other fields. In 2012, Tegal acquired CollabRx, Inc., a private company, changed its name to CollabRx, Inc. in September 2012, and adopted the mission and goals of CollabRx in the health care / bioinformatics industries.
