With the current program reform, all Natural Sciences students in Quebec will now have an introductory programming course.Although becoming a teacher is not my career goal, trying out the experience seemed like an interesting challenge and a great opportunity to share my passion for programming. During my second-to-last university term, I taught a course at my former CEGEP, 3 hours per week, in addition to taking my own engineering courses.I had to design a 45-hour course according to the requirements of the Ministry of Higher Education, create lecture notes, exercises, and assessments from scratch, grade assignments and exams, and adapt my planning throughout the term. Of course, I was able to rely on the help and good advice of my colleagues and former teachers, and I participated in departmental meetings and the implementation of the new curriculum alongside them.Although this experience is not directly applicable to a software development job, I am certain that it has made me better able to communicate in various contexts, understand an audience, and explain my points to an audience without the same technical knowledge as mine.

Nexapp assists companies from various fields in the development of their software products, providing advice and expertise to improve development processes as well as the quality and value of the produced software.During the summer, I was part of a team working on various projects in collaboration with equally diverse clients. I had the opportunity to:- Add features to a consumer web application in Ruby on Rails;- Investigate and resolve issues in an automated messaging service using Python and Angular;- Create an ETL pipeline in Ruby to connect a client to their data provider;- Develop a restaurant mobile application from scratch in React Native with my colleagues.In addition to the technical experience gained with numerous technologies, I directly interacted with several clients to determine their needs, estimate the workload, and communicate the team's progress.In the context of a small team working on multiple projects simultaneously with always different technologies, I also participated in discussions and suggested solutions to improve our processes, velocity, and knowledge sharing within the team.

Bentley develops engineering software dedicated to infrastructure.During the summer, I was part of the team developing the Reality Data Web Viewer. This web application allows users to view, compare, and annotate 3D models of various infrastructures. I primarily added features related to 3D model annotations, which allowed me to explore the frontend of the application in depth. Some tasks also allowed me to work, to a lesser extent, with the application's backend (C#).This internship enabled me to learn a lot about frontend web technologies:- React;- Redux;- TypeScript;- iTwin.js library, developed by Bentley;I also developed essential skills for software engineers:- use of Git, branches, and pull requests;- collaboration with a team of developers, product managers, and other internal teams;- architectural and maintainability considerations.

Technologies Lanka specializes in the design and manufacturing of systems for trains and subways.During the summer, I had the opportunity to work on several projects:- Analyzing and synthesizing cybersecurity standards;- Streamlining a custom-built Linux embedded operating system using the Yocto tool;- Performing network connectivity tests;- Adding features to software (embedded code and client/server);- Conducting a preliminary study for purchasing a sensor with the aim of incorporating it into a product;These projects allowed me to learn a great deal, particularly about:- Linux, Yocto, and command-line tools;- Network protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, NTP, IGMP, etc.), Wireshark, tcpdump;- Embedded programming (in C) and frontend web development (JavaScript, HTML, CSS).
