Thomas Morgan is an award-winning communications consultant in Michigan who has led the charge for numerous political and issue campaigns, both out front and behind the scenes.Morgan works for the Michigan Education Association as the union's communications consultant and press secretary, where he's responsible for fielding media inquiries, connecting reporters with frontline educators and serving as the primary media spokesperson for the 120,000-member union. He also develops communications strategies and materials geared toward the public, educators, policymakers and other stakeholders. Morgan has presented to groups across the country on effective communications tactics, with a focus on message development and deployment. He served five years as a guest presenter for the prestigious Michigan Political Leadership Program, where he trained fellows on messaging and presentation techniques.Active in the Greater Lansing community, Morgan was elected to the Ingham County Board of Commissioners in 2018 and 2022. He has also served as chair of the 7th Congressional District Democratic Party and chair of the Ingham County Economic Development Corp., as a commissioner on the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission and the Lansing Planning Commission; and as secretary-treasurer of the Ingham County Equal Opportunity Committee. Prior to his current role at the MEA, Morgan developed strategic communications for MESSA, a health plan formed by the MEA. He began his MEA career in 2012 as editor of the MEA Voice, the union's long-running magazine. Before joining MEA, Morgan worked as an account executive for Byrum & Fisk Advocacy Communications, Michigan's preeminent Democratic PR firm. In that role, he helped achieve victory for numerous political candidates, nonprofits, businesses, ballot committees and labor unions.He continues performing similar strategic communications services on a part-time basis for select clients of his boutique consultancy, Morgan Communications LLC, helping to elect numerous candidates to local and state office, as well as pass several ballot proposals.Morgan began his career in journalism, serving as a reporter and later managing editor of City Pulse, a newsweekly in the capital city.A Grand Rapids native, Morgan graduated cum laude from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in journalism after attending Grand Rapids Community College. He was the first in his family to attend college.Morgan lives on the east side of Lansing with his wife, Samara, and their two children.
