Joined Travelport, a global travel technology company, shortly after its flotation on the NYSE as a Named Executive Officer and General Counsel, accountable for legal risk management and secretariat and SEC compliance. Appointed Chief Risk Officer to reformulate the company’s risk assessment and reporting approach, how that fed the annual strategic planning cycle, and lead business continuity and crisis management planning. Reshaped and expanded the scope of the Compliance and Ethics work to cover more areas, put new processes in place to assist with the entity level controls needed to achieve the Sarbannes Oxley standards for SEC registered entity. Reorganised the existing Legal function along business lines. In high volume areas, started simplification programme for internal processes in customer acquisition, new business implementation and customer service, including simplifying the commercial offering and associated contract, approval and billing processes.

Organised Risk strategy and reporting cycles to help inform Board and Audit Committee of activities of the business and how it dovetails with strategic and management plans. Involved in all major corporate and finance projects: the creation of online gambling joint venture and subsequent buy-out, various capital raisings, contracts for software, sports data and TV rights, entry into the US betting market in Nevada, and the consortium bid for Sportingbet plc, from which William Hill bought its Australian businesses. After January 2012, accountable for the Group’s IT teams, creating the new processes for prioritising the projects competing for capital and skilled resources from the different parts of the Group. From early 2013, accountability for its then new US business, and part of the oversight of the Australian business. Involved in many industry and public policy issues on behalf of the Group, in both the UK and in Europe.

Joined RHM, then privately equity owned, as it was preparing to IPO on the London Stock Exchange, involving the sale of unwanted businesses, a capital restructuring (including a pension scheme restructuring to reduce its deficit), creation of a plc governance structure and the project to facilitate the float itself. Appointed as the General Counsel and was heavily involved in a strategic review to determine where real value opportunities lay and how they could be achieved. Several unprofitable businesses were closed, overhead costs were reduced, and substantial investments were made.
