I am currently working on the implementation of the stormwater utility fee. In January 2016, the City of Portland will begin charging property owners based on their property's impervious area. I have developed the standard operating procedures by which the City will review stormwater management plans submitted for stormwater fee credits; revised the credit manual, clarifying the manner in which the City will apply the Maine DEP ch. 500 stormwater regulations to the credit program; and have helped facilitate site visits with the owners of highly impacted properties to help them determine how to manage their stormwater impact.

The goal of my master's thesis was to identify and address factors that affect the accuracy of average annual daily bicycle traffic estimates based on limited data sources. These estimates have a wide range of infrastructure, policy and planning applications. I have co-authored several journal articles and presentations on cyclist safety, cyclist data collection and processing, and the relationship between cycling and weather. Data collection is a central component of our work, and I have lead and participated in several large-scale data collection campaigns, incorporating inductive loop and pneumatic tube counters, as well as video analytic systems.

Montreal, Quebec

The Westmount Walking and Cycling Association has long been advocating for a the construction of a cycle track to span a dangerous area and connect two existing stretches of bicycle infrastructure. I worked with members of the association to develop a 3D model of the proposed cycle track to be used in meetings, presentations, and for publicity. The model was featured in an article in the Montreal Gazette, attached below.

During my brief tenure at RIDOT, I prepared small presentations and reports, including preliminary layouts for two bus transit facilities, I wrote office correspondences and meeting notes, and participated in project site visits and community stakeholder meetings. This experience solidified my desire to devote my career to serving the public and improving transportation options for all.
