There is nothing that I love more than figuring out how things work and how I can make it myself. This doesn't often lead to any particularly fascinating insights, but every now and then, I find myself staring at something wildly confusing and then having to spend the next month learning everything I can about it.Starting as a humble PHP developer, tinkering with WordPress sites before upgrading to large Python websites and eventually delving into TypeScript, Node.js and making C++ extensions for image manipulation and steganography purposes. I've since started toying with Rust as a C++ replacement and just want to learn more and more.Really, I think my main drives are just puzzles. Figuring out why something works, or doesn't, and then spending time to unpack and re-pack it to see if it can be improved. A good example of this is when I got interested in cryptography and it's applications. As developers, we mostly just use it without fully understanding it, but after reading a fantastic book I decided to learn more. After researching I discovered ways of adding even better security to the company's current systems with minimal effort for the other developers by creating all of the necessary tools myself to ease the transition.With some background in digital design, UX and photography, I like to think I bring a level of outside perspective to more "hard" software problems that many others might not want to spend time thinking about.
