Principal R&D Mechanical Engineer

Arvada, Colorado, United States

1,000 tonnes/year Pilot Scale FrostCC System @ National Carbon Capture CenterI was responsible for overseeing the completion of the LCO2 pump skid build, facilitating shipment to NCCC two weeks ahead of schedule. As part of the team that frequently traveled to NCCC, I played an integral role in completing the installation and commissioning of the FrostCC cryogenic carbon capture system. During testing, serving as the lone night shift operators on site, I monitored and controlled the system, made scheduled inspection rounds, and reacted quickly and safely to diagnose and repair any issues that arose. The collective efforts of the Carbon America team finishing this project strong enabled us to achieve our target of 1000 hours of testing before the deadline for decommissioning arrived.100,000 tonnes/year Commercial Scale FrostCC SystemAfter the successful demonstration of the Pilot Scale FrostCC System, I worked collaboratively with the modeling and process teams to investigate potential system configurations in preparation for the pre-FEED (front-end engineering and design) study. I developed state point requirements into preliminary equipment sizing and specifications to use for evaluating the merits of each configuration.

Engineering Analyst

Nunica, Michigan, United States

As an Engineering Analyst at Baker Engineering, I was in charge of the planning and execution of all 3D modeling (CFD & FEA) and validation work. I supported testing efforts through test plan preparation, design, hardware procurement, setup, instrumentation, testing, and data analysis. I also collaborated with the engineering team to prepare contract deliverables (hardware, briefings, and progress/final technical reports) as well as bids and proposals for commercial and government contract opportunities.-Design and development of hot gas turbocharger test stands: successfully validated mapping of compressor and turbine against manufacturer data.-Optimized the intake and exhaust port and manifold geometries to improve cylinder scavenging of twin-cylinder opposed piston engine by developing transient dynamic mesh CFD model.-Determined preliminary orifice diameter and count needed to hit target injection quantities by developing a dynamic mesh CFD model of a fuel injector's transient needle motion.-Developed a fuel injection rate measurement stand based on the Zeuch method including test procedures used to map a miniaturized fuel injector.

Turbomachinery Laboratory (Woven Wheel Project) I devised using additive manufacturing to enable the rapid prototyping of complex mandrel designs to improve this novel method for producing composite axial rotors from a continuous fiber tow. By dry winding the fibers around these 3D-printed mandrels before infusing them with resin using a VARTM process, I was able to greatly improve the strength and surface finish of the rotors.
