As a part of my university work I took on a placement year in order to gain my Master's Degree. Many find work in the UK but I wanted to experience life in another country so I set my sights on Germany.My main projects involve:• PCB Design with Altium Designer:During my first month working here I took it upon myself to learn Altium Designer as I had an interest in PCB design in university and wanted to continue that work. I am now my team's go-to person for PCB development, expanding my knowledge into noise reduction, multi-layers, and high frequency.• Atmel Micro-controller Programming in C:As someone who originally struggled with basic C coding in my first year of university, I stuck stuck with it and my hard work is paying off. I am regularly in the laboratories testing and debugging chips and building systems around them. • Prototyping with Electromagnetic Forces:My main project involves the driving of a hammering mechanism through the means of electromagnets and in addition I assist a project, which is building a wireless power transfer charging system. The has allowed to me become well read in the properties of Electromagnetic forces.German Learning:German was not a requirement of the job, as English is often spoken onsite, however I have conducted all tasks in German. Since my A Levels I have kept up German in my own time and decided that the only way I was going to master the language was to force myself into the correct environment. Not only is my conversational German good with co-workers and other business professionals, but I have a growing technical vocabulary which is very beneficial in the engineering sector.

Straight out of Secondary School I took a job with Aero Engine Controls (AEC), which became Rolls-Royce Controls And Data Services during my placement.My main projects involved:• Prototype Development: leading to the future automation of device testing. Here I worked closely with a a team of engineers at Coventry's Manufacturing Technology Centre, where I gained experience with data acquisition and additive manufacturing (3D Printing).• Excel and Visual Basic: I build a program that would scan the company's finances, searching for duplicates or incorrect inputs, which allowed money to be freed up and be redistributed across the current projects.• Data Analysis: The airplane engine controls produce by AEC would be tested between -55°C and 80°C, to prove they could function correctly during flight and emergency. I took on the task to collect data from the a test chamber and format a report, proving that all parts of the device were correctly tested.• General Tasks:On a weekly basis I would be responsible for the cleanliness of the labs, the writing up of minutes, as well as small odd jobs given to me by senior engineers. Small daily tasks taught me how to solder, manage cabling and read circuit diagrams.
