Transitioned to a support position due to possible reassignment within the organization and to provide thorough training support for the onboarding of a new Regional Manager. Provided supervision and monitoring of approximately 30 maintenance and construction projects throughout the region. Projects included 480V electrical systems, civil and structural construction, mechanical piping and equipment. Direct supervision craft union trades (civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical). Oversaw Project Controls for region including scheduling and monitoring of projects totaling $3-$4 million in costs.

Oversaw power and non-power related maintenance and construction projects encompassing 12 hydroelectric plants and pumped storage facility throughout a three-state region while managing multiple union jurisdictions from different cities and states. Determined and monitored yearly performance and safety goals for the region. Developed project budgets, work plans, safety plans, schedules, and manpower projections for all projects. Interfaced with client managers, engineers, and contractors on projects dealing with all engineering disciplines. Projects included: 13.8 KV / 4160V / 480V /240V AC electrical systems, 250VDC electrical systems, instrumentation and controls, fire detection, structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication and erection, earthwork, concrete foundations, mechanical piping and equipment installation, and coatings including abatement.

Construction Manager for TVA Watts Bar Hydro Plant Fire Recovery Project working a 24/7 schedule to recover operation of 5 unit hydro plant from electrical fire. Served as the primary interface between client’s project management and engineering teams. Developed and implemented a fast-track construction schedule for powerhouse reconstruction involving five 35 MW hydroelectric units and control room construction. Planned and implemented environmental cleanup operations including project safety and environmental procedures involving hazardous and PCB materials. Ensured all units returned to service 7 to 24 days ahead of schedule with no recordable environmental events.Work included structural modifications to powerhouse and control building, construction of new control room, 13.8KV power cables replacements, 480V / 240V / 250VDC electrical power and control cables replacement throughout powerhouse, replacement of 13.8KV generator breakers, 250VDC battery system replacement, HVAC installation, and coatings.

Served in a variety of capacities starting as Estimator, promoted to Construction Supervisor, and finally to Project Controls Manager, reporting to the Area Manager. Provided project controls management, site monitoring, and construction engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil) for all projects within the region. Developed proposals including estimating for all disciplines, developing project specific work, safety, quality, and environmental plans, and analyzing cash flow for both hydroelectric and fossil plants. Contributed to project development with responsibilities for turning projects over to superintendent/foreman at mobilization (long-lead procurement, constructability reviews, equipment requisitions, etc.).

Oversaw construction of a $75 million, hard dollar, fast tracked 2,500 tons per day Material Recovery Facility (MRF). Served as the contractor’s site representative for Babcock and Wilcox and as the supervisor to project site engineers. Identified and resolved construction problems with design engineers and contractor personnel. Reviewed contractor’s submittals, information requests, and non-conformance reports. Successfully managed project scheduling including coordination of engineering, and monitoring and refining contractor’s construction schedule.

Served as Lead Civil/Structural/Architectural Estimator for several proposal projects (conceptual and lump sum) in the United States, Taiwan Republic of China, Singapore, and Puerto Rico.

Field Engineer and Superintendent for $60 million hard-dollar piping installation contract for 1,300 MW power plant. Assigned to improve a project initially forecasted behind schedule and over-budget. Successfully increased project efficiency and completed assignment ahead of schedule and within budget. Served as site contact for client representatives on construction issues. Coordinated high percentage of extra work orders in addition to previously scheduled work. Performed small bore piping layout and hanger designs on several systems.

Provided engineering supervision of construction disciplines (civil, structural, architectural) for fast-track, design and build of $12 million dollar project for Union Carbide. Handled mechanical piping systems with 15,000 LF of above ground piping with the erection of 5.5 MW turbine/generator, HRSG, and gas compressor, and associated equipment including demineralization system, water softening system, chemical feed system, sampling/analyzer system, and pumps. Selected and supervised subcontractors in areas of demolition, painting, railroad track installation, and pre-engineered building erection. Coordinated high percentage of change orders throughout the life of project.

Performed quantity take-offs and estimates on conceptual and hard-dollar civil projects. Assisted in procurement, scheduling, and subcontractor selection on various projects ranging from $6-$100 million dollars.
