As a 5 year-old, I knew then that I wanted to follow my hero, Frank Lloyd Wright. While other children were dreaming of being a baseball player or astronaut, I was drawing home plans and using building blocks day in and day out. As I completed my educational career, the focus became more laser-like. I became disenchanted with how Architects had lost their ability to design America's typical home. I had a mission: Provide design services to everyday people that wanted to build their dream home. It's my desire to affect as many people as possible through the design process. It's all about what you can achieve, that is economical, yet fulfills their vision on how one can enjoy the richness of a living space, no matter how small or large it may be.I had been laser focused since completing my college career at Virginia Tech in 1989, on owning my own design firm at age 35. Working for other firms through the early part of my career, allowed me to develop a unique approach to the design process. So at age 35, I started my own firm with a purpose. I wanted to provide an inclusive approach, so that my clients were fully vested in their own project. 3,500 projects later, we have been successful beyond my dreams.Fast Forward to today and RBA Architects has become the leading Residential Design Firm in Southeastern Virginia. Whether it be a small addition to a home for extended family or a large Mixed-Use project that contains live work components, we approach each project with the same care. It's critical that Architects be stewards of the land and design projects that benefit not only the clients, but the community as a whole.
