Tübingen
Working with Prof..Hans Küng, under whom I wrote my doctoral thesis, I was responsible for many years for maintaining the Institute's conventional card-catalog documentation project "Forschungskatalog über theologische Literatur sein 1945", for which I developed a new ordering system after a 1984. down-sizing revision .Later, after 1996, I worked with professors Bernd Jochen Hilberath and Urs Baumann as a translator and as a promotor of contacts with the Orthodox churches.
Tübingen
I entered the Tübingen University Library in 1978 as a documentalist for THEODOK project designed to provide comprehensive information, documentation and document delivery for the fields of theology and general religioujs studies. When three years later, the project was abruptly terminated for financial reasons, we published a final report, presenting in detail our unique system of subject cataloging combining the strengths of and avoiding the weaknesses of exclusively systematic or alphabetic approaches to subject cataloging. This report was published under the title: "Theologische und religionswissenschaftlicher Literaturinformation : Klassifikation zur Allgemeinen Religionswissenschaft und Systematischen Theologie als Arbeitsergebnis des Projekts THEODOK" / Gunther Franz; Dieter Ising; Thomas Riplinger '(Ges. für Information u. Dokumentation, Beiträge u. Berichte, Reihe A, 10Ö; Frankfurt a.M.: IDD Verlag, 1989), 319 pp.After the termination of the THEODOK project, I stayed on as a subject cataloger in the University Library, being responsible for maintaining the section for literature about individual persons and their work and the section for literature about geographical regions and localities, as well as the philosophy subsection of the Library's Epplesheimer subject catalog. When this was replaced by cooperative subject cataloging within the Südwest-Verbund using descriptors from the Schlagwortnormdatei, I assumed responsibility for systematic theology as well.
