About Thomas Rolland
I studied Computer Science, specializing in Artificial Intelligence and pattern recognition. In 2016, I successfully earned my Bachelor of Science degree, followed by a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence in 2018, both from the University of Toulouse 3, France.I transitioned to Lisbon, Portugal, to pursue a PhD at Inesc-ID and Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa. Under the supervision of Professor Alberto Abad, my research focuses on improving automatic speech recognition for children.I have participated in several noteworthy initiatives such as TAPAS - Training Network on Automatic Processing of Pathological Speech - a European program. Currently, I'm part of the ACCELERAT.AI project.Beyond my primary focus on children's automatic speech recognition, I maintain a broad spectrum of research interests. These encompass parameter fine-tuning, Text-to-Speech and pruning strategies.

https://www.tapas-etn-eu.org/Developing speech therapy games for children with speech disorderThis project aims to provide speech and language therapists with a set of tools that integrate speech and language technology into a serious game environment particularly designed for children. The gamification elements aim at engaging the patient during regular therapy sessions and to promote its usage at home. This will require novel techniques for modelling, recognising and assessing the correctness of speech produced by children with pathological speech. The project will focus both on speech sound disorders (articulation and phonological problems) and speechmotor disorders, such as Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).
