Rapid Infection Diagnostics Inc. (RID) was founded August 2019 in Calgary, Alberta with a mission of reducing death and disability from infectious diseases via state-of-the-art diagnostic technology. RID leverages advanced mass spectrometry to enable a suite rapid diagnostic tests that reduce microbiology testing times from days to hours.

Research goals include expediting identification of pathogens using metabolomics and identifying evolutionary fitness traits of pathogens in continuous culture.

Primary projects: Engineering of (i) Clostridium thermocellum to improve biofuel yields and (ii) Pseudomonas putida to improve polyhydroxyalkaonate production.Supervisor: Dr. Adam Guss

Dissertation: "Integration of Genome Content, Enzyme Activities, and Expression Profiles in Assesing Changes in End-Product Yields in Clostridium thermocellum ATCC 27405"Highlights: Integration of transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and/or enzyme activity analysis to explain changes in metabolic fluxes in response to growth conditions including (i) growth phase, (ii), end-product accumulation, (iii) H2 partial pressures, (iv) pH, (v) substrate oxidation levels, and (vi) protein inhibitors. Use of comparative genomics and proteomic expression profiles to understand distribution of end-product yields.Research Advisor: Dr. Richard Sparling
