I joined HSBC on the commercial banking graduate scheme in July 2017. The scheme requires great commitment and motivation and is extremely rewarding in terms of experiences and skills development. The scheme has allowed me to experience a broad range of job roles across a number of departments. This has allowed me to gain a broad insight in to our commercial banking offering and has helped me develop and improve a wide ranging skill set as each role has demanded different skills and capabilities to be successful. Additionally, the scheme has allowed me to study for me Level 5 and Level 6 qualifications with the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) covering modules such as Relationship Management, Commercial Lending, Corporate Lending, Financial Risk Management for Banks and Operational Risk Management in Banks. This, alongside my day-to-day experiences within my roles, has greatly improved my commercial banking knowledge and understanding.Furthermore, whilst on the graduate scheme I have been allowed to undertake a number of projects and additional activities that have provided me with an opportunity to develop a wider range of soft skills to compliment the development of my commercial banking knowledge. This has included being involved with charity projects, new graduate and intern development projects, and promoting the graduate scheme to potential graduates.Roles which I have undertaken during the graduate scheme include:1. I worked as part of a case team on a number of corporate insolvency cases leading companies through the relevant insolvency process. I undertook day-to-day tasks such as responding in a timely and professional manner to creditor correspondence as well as producing and dispatching statutory documents in the insolvency process including letters and progress reports. One of my main projects was to organise the distribution of £7m in unsecured creditor funds ensuring that all unsecured claims against the respective company were valid and accurately assessed. In addition, I was provided with the responsibility of managing my own work load and ensuring all tasks were completed on time. I improved and gained many skills including teamwork, time management, critical thinking and professional acumen.

Loughborough University

I promoted the use of Milkround.com, a student and graduate recruitment website, both on social media and at careers fairs held at Loughborough University. My role was to inform students of the ability of Milkround to help them find the right internship or graduate role for them. I was awarded commission for achieving specific sign-up targets which motivated me to be proactive and to create ways of achieving bulk sign-ups such as lecture shout-outs where I could pitch the usefulness of Milkround to a whole lecture theatre of students.This experience greatly progressed my skills of presenting in an informative manner as well as improving my interpersonal skills.

Loughborough University

I was the treasurer for my student halls committee whilst at university and oversaw £36,000 of hall subscription funds, producing annual and individual event budgets to ensure the funds were spent efficiently in order to maximise the student experience. In addition, I collected hall subs at the beginning of the academic year and implemented new ways to ensure higher payment rates. My wider role within the committee was to work in a team of 18 to organise hall events and ensure the halls success in league tables such as in sports, RAG and Action.

In this role I cleaned building sites upon completion of the building work to ensure that the respective site was presented to the highest quality to the client. This included removing left over building materials and a deep cleanse of the sites. This work had to be completed swiftly in order to ensure the project did not run over schedule and as such I gained valuable project management skills ensuring that all areas of the building site were cleaned on time.

Working as a customer assistant at Focus DIY required me to have good customer relations as well as having a desire to have extensive knowledge of a broad range of products. I would use this knowledge to advise customers on the best product(s) for them, where the product they were looking for could be located within the store and to provide any further assistance they needed.To achieve this I would have to use specialised computer software to special order products, provide stock counts and notify head office of any returns or damages.I was often put in positions of responsibility simultaneously managing the main customer information desk, answering customer queries via the phone and serving customers at the tills.In this role I gained many skills including customer relations, teamwork, organisation and time management.
