I joined ReminderMedia as one of only 2 employees in 2004. The company has seen substantial growth and I have adapted myself and the solutions I apply to changing business needs. As the VP of Technology I understand the need to test opportunities with an entrepreneurial spirit as well as the careful development behind detailed accounting and critical customer systems.My core focus right now is continuing to build an amazing team that builds an amazing relationship management and marketing platform for our customers.I spend most of my day working to make sure teams are empowered and making quality short and longer term decisions and then filling the gaps by knocking out tickets myself. I feel this allows me to have a better perspective on the work I'm asking others to do.At the end of the day I am motivated by seeing customers and employees become more successful. I enjoy their excitement as they are introduced to tools that my team and I have built.Some thoughts on developing software:Make a serious effort to search for iterative development within projects that appear to be all or nothing. Continuously release small changes. I've embraced trying to minimize lead time by making deploying new features as effortless as we can.Stay focused when accepting new project features.Each technology added is one more thing someone needs to maintain. Choose wisely, don't chase shiny objects.Split up large development teams along software philosophy boundaries. Since I first wrote this section of my profile I've started following the concept of "stream aligned teams" from the book Team Topologies to much success.Empower other departments by moving control outside the software, for many power user solutions aim to build flexible tools.
