In the heavy maintenance department we perform a wide array of tasks. My department is responsible for building most of the work tables and other carts and items used in the daily maintenance of our aircraft. We make these items from both wood and metal or a combination of the two. This allows me to gain experience using many different tools and types of equipment and keeping sharp on my problem solving skills. Many times we are asked to build something without any blue prints or plans so myself and other members of the crew have to come up with a design and a way of building the item that is needed.

New Sabina Industries is a company that builds meters for the dashboards of many different car models. While I worked for this company I worked in the sub-assembly area. The sub-assembly area was the first step in the process of making the meters for the cars. I assembled most of the parts in this area by hand, simply snapping the parts together by hand. Some of our parts required the use of a machine in order to complete the production process. The machines I operated included lens presses, Branson vibration welders, ring presses, and other machines. Once our process was complete we would then pass the part onto the next station in order for the next department to continue the process. While with New Sabina I had excellent attendance, I always received good reviews on my work performance.

I worked for ABX for nearly 13 years and then the company closed down. During my time with ABX I worked in nearly every area of the company and held many different positions and did many different jobs. I was forklift trained and I operated a forklift for many years. I worked for several years on the ramp loading and off loading aircraft which required me to operate belly loaders, tugs, cushmans, and other equipment. I was also a certified aircraft load-planner. While load planning I was responsible for ensuring that the aircraft was loaded properly and the weight loaded on the plane was distributed properly. I worked on the truck docks for a time loading, unloading, and load planning trucks. I was a lead sorter for 2 years of the time that I was with the company. My last position with the company was as a dispatcher.We were responsible for checking in all of the inbound and outbound trucks servicing ABX. I had to check inbound trucks to ensure the paperwork was correct and matched the load that was on the truck. I then had to direct the truck to the proper dock for off loading, the company had four different dock for unloading depending on the type and size of freight the truck was carrying. I had to ensure that all outbound trucks were loaded with the proper freight and had the proper paperwork and met weight standards. I was also responsible for making sure that any freight that did not make the sort was properly stored on company trailers and the proper off load docks and ready for the next shift. I also had to check all empty trailers on the property for freight to ensure that no freight was left behind. At the end of the shift I had to use Excel, AS400, and Microsoft Office to create reports about the activities of the day, these reports went to the highest levels of management. When the company closed down I was about to complete my sixth year of perfect attendance, I always received top marks on my reviews and received top pay raises.

I served active duty as a Radioteletype operator from 1981-1984. At the time of my ETS I had achieved the rank of E-4. I then served three years in the Ohio National Guard, I was in charge of the communications squad.I have worked many jobs during my 53 years, too many to list them all. Some of the other jobs I have held are a Dispatcher for the Pike County Sheriff, I worked as a lineman for the Harlan Telephone Company, I worked as a crystal grower for Crysteco and I also operated my own woodworking business for several years.
