Subject matter expert who provides specialized support and training in the safe handling and removal of conventional and unconventional unexploded ordnance, improvised explosive devices and explosive hazards. Operationally command an EOD response team, providing technical guidance and direction to subordinate EOD technicians and ensuring adherence to proper protocol and procedures; serve as the senior on-scene EOD representative and primary EOD point of contact during incident responses; coordinate additional support necessary to achieve the EOD mission; and draft, review and approve EOD after-action reports.Review operational and technical performance of team members to identify training needs and any potential areas that require remediation or guidance; coordinate and facilitate ongoing in-service training for subordinate EOD personnel to maintain and enhance work skills, performance, and capabilities; and maintain training records for team personnel.Respond to emergencies with equipment and technical data; conduct long range and close in reconnaissance; and use x-ray equipment, robotic systems, and remotely initiated or controlled tools and techniques to interrogate and gain access to the device.Identify and assess device condition and any potential chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threat; advise incident commanders on recommended safe withdrawal distances; and take appropriate measures to evacuate personnel.Identify and conduct appropriate render safe procedures for unexploded ordnance, improvised explosive devices, mines, and weapons of mass destruction; isolate the item and/or area; move and/or consolidate devices that have been determined acceptable for movement within a specified area of responsibility; and excavate and safely disposed of devices.
