The Cancer Research UK London Research Institute became the Francis Crick Institute per April first 2015.

Within the IOP Photonics project IMPACT (IPD100020), I design and perform all experiments on in vivo imaging and functional testing of newly developed upconversion nanoparticles with photosensitising properties. Additionally, I am supervising two Ph.D. students working on the development and testing of new probes and cameras for fluorescence-guided surgery. Furthermore, I am managing all scientific work for the new biotech venture Ilumicare. This company aims to commercialise cell death probes for the measurement of early treatment responses in cancer patients.

As a Ph.D. student, I developed a number of methods for analysing skeletal changes in small laboratory animals using micro-CT. In addition, I worked on integrated image analysis approaches for complex multi-modality datasets. I successfully applied these methods in research on combination treatments of cancer-induced bone disease. This work resulted in my Ph.D. thesis, which I successfully defended June 13, 2012. (Dutch Cancer Society grant UL7007-3801)

TI Pharma was in its start-up phase at the time of this internship. I designed and implemented the organisational structure of the institute, working closely together with Wietse Bloemzaad, senior consultant at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. Additionally, I presented TI Pharma procedures concerning project management at partner institutions. I translated all project descriptions from scientific English tot laymen's Dutch.

This internship took place in the lab of A.N. Economides, Ph.D., senior director Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. I successfully designed, produced and tested all necessary genetic constructs for the generation of a conditional SOST knock-out mouse.
