Thomas C. Starner, Executive Vice-president of Puritan Products, Inc., has more than 35 years of progressively responsible experience directing the design, construction, and operation of high-purity chemical facilities for the reagent and semiconductor markets. Tom has spent 5 years as a research chemist and 30 years as a production manager, operations manager, and process development engineer in the semiconductor process chemical industry. His unique experience encompasses chemical process safety, regulatory oversight, analytical knowledge, and process development and scale-up of high-purity chemical processes. The safety and environmental records of facilities under Tom’s management clearly depict the attention given to these areas.Among his significant previous positions and achievements, Tom designed, directed the construction and managed an anhydrous hydrofluoric acid purification facility for Ashland Chemical’s Electronic Chemicals Division in the San Francisco Bay Area. He designed and directed the construction of high-purity nitric acid distillation units for PPM Technologies, Inc., Easton, PA, Olin Micro-electronics, Nazareth, PA, and Ashland Chemical, Dallas, TX. In addition, Tom has experience in the purification of other mineral acids as well as acetic acid, solvents, hydrogen peroxide and various organic acid solutions. He holds patents for ammonium hydroxide purification, volatile organic compound absorption, and high-purity container design. Tom Starner holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA. He is a Six-Sigma Black Belt, a state-certified HAZMAT instructor, and an active member of the local emergency planning committee.
