My first role in 1963 was as a Bookkeeper , and I was also responsible for the pay roll.This was my first taste of what was going to be a life time in the world of Accountancy and Finance, it was a medium sized firm and I found the work interesting and varied.In 1968 I moved to Thorn EMI where I continued to do the same tasks, later moving on to Credit Control and Bonus calculation and allocation.I have always been task focused, systematic and structured, so from the beginning of my career Finance always was enjoyable and very interesting to me. I was given to opportunity in these early role to learn some great skills that have served me well throughout my career.Firstly I learnt how to communicate and liaise both verbally and in writing effectively with our clients, visitors, staff and stakeholders, engaging with others and creating a good working rapport.Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors so as to enable us to deliver high quality customer service to our clients.Bookkeeping requires patience and accuracy, as well as the ability to maintain organisation and structure.Quality Bookkeeping means you maintain robust record keeping, ensuring the business stays on track, fully understanding the businesses financial position at all times. In 1978 I moved to Wholesale fittings PLC as a fulltime Bookkeeper, building my skills with my focus on efficiency and productivity, ensuring that we maintained stability and predictability financially.Then In 1987 I joined Ashfields Chartered Accountants, key duties were preparing accounts and tax returns, administering payrolls, controlling income and expenditure, auditing financial information.Compiling and presenting reports, budgets, business plans, and financial statements for clients, analysing accounts and business plans, providing tax planning services, financial forecasting and risk analysis, also dealing with insolvency cases
