I’m a programming, business, and space geek who believes that the first step to a solution is fully understanding the problem.Since highschool, I’ve loved building things. My interest in building and problem solving led me to CSU as an Undeclared Engineering student. However after attending several technology meetups, I realized that software may give me that opportunity more effectively. While at one of these meetups, I met Sebastian who gave me a position at GoAbroad as one of two web development interns working to build a custom blogging platform using Laravel and React. With one CS-150 class (User Interfaces in Java) under my belt, my first task was to build the login. Thanks to Laracasts (and occasional slack questions to my fellow developer intern or boss) I was hooked! My love of software intersected with my interest in business management when I asked to try Project Management at CodeGeek. CodeGeek focuses primarily on WordPress hosting and development. I ended up being the direct contact for over 35 concurrent clients, including some of our biggest and most technical ones. As a project manager, I could consult and plan with clients, and as a developer I got to build the solution we landed on. In this role, I learned the importance of consulting and understanding the business case behind everything I was building. In that role, I also received training to become part of the sales team. Looking for a challenge, I switched to my current job at Izoox. Coming from a WordPress background, my main job here was building a custom banking web application using Vue and Laravel. This platform is used by many credit unions nationwide to process mortgages, order home inspections and insurance from multiple vendors, and securely store data to make future orders easier. Since then, I’ve expanded into a project lead role, working directly with clients to see their projects through from beginning to end.
