One can also expect a broad and practical knowledge of issues related to various EU-level policies relevant for regional development as well as to European Territorial Cooperation as supported under the EU’s Regional & Cohesion Policy. Moreover, I have gained extensive practical experiences in providing technical assistance to the programming, management & implementation of EU Structural Funds programmes and fully elaborated a number of successully approved project proposals for European Territorial Co-operation programmes.

1992-1993: Full time expert contract (intra muros) from with the Directorate General for Research / Internal Market Division / Regional Policy. Responsibilities: Co-ordination and surveillance of external study projects, drawing up of two internal studies on regional policy issues, handling of requests coming from MEPs. Main fields of work: EU-Structural Funds, role of regional and local authorities in the European integration process, Trans European Transport-Networks. Co-author of two internal studies for the Directorate-General for Research: (1) “The powers of regional and local authorities and their role in the European Union”. Editor: European Parliament, Regional Policy Series, Working Document W 4, 1993. (2) “The regional impact of the European Economic Space Agreement”. Editor: European Parliament, Regional Policy Series, Working Document W 6, 1993. 1993-1996: Advisor and personal collaborator of a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). Responsibilities: Co-ordination and accompaignment as regards the content of ongoing parliamentary committee work (analysing/preparing reports, drafting of amendments for the committees on regional policy and transport policy), public relations, co-ordination of activities in the constituency, organisation of 2 conferences on regional development in Lower-Saxony. Co-ordination and accompaignment of the re-election campaign of the MEP in 1994.
