The Kuala Lumpur Centre for Sustainable Innovation (KLCSI) is a centre of excellence for the advancement of sustainable urban developments in Malaysia. Located in Malaysia’s capital, it is a joint venture between AECOM and Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (Federal Territory Foundation). Poised as a research and development hub to fast-track research, test-bed and deploy commercialized products and services to enhance the quality of life across the Klang Valley, the KLSCI was officially established in April 2015 and will focus on creating economic, environmental and social value that will benefit Greater Kuala Lumpur’s community. The Centre will look into driving active urban living for the aged, promoting cycling as a means of transport and developing innovative and sustainable waste management methods in one of Kuala Lumpur’s districts, amongst other initiatives. Headed by AECOM’s Dr Thomas Tang, Director of Sustainability & Corporate Initiatives, Asia, the KLCSI team will collaborate with entrepreneurs, sponsors, academic institutions and communities to work towards enhancing urban Malaysia.

AECOM, Asia (2009 – current) AECOM (www.aecom.com) is a Fortune 500 company listed on the NYSE engaged in planning and design engineering services. My responsibility as Director for Sustainability, Asia and the Head of the Office for Corporate Sustainability is to deliver programmes aimed at reducing the company’s operational footprint in regard to materials, energy and water as well as improving thought leadership and project delivery. Achievements include:• Leading a team researching, test-bedding, and deploying commercialized products, services, processes and technologies in ‘living laboratory’ settings in the city of Kuala Lumpur (starting in April 2015).• Preparing the company’s sustainability report (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014)• Setting up the company’s environmental dashboard to measure the footprint of 22 offices across Asia – we have achieved a 5% reduction year on year on energy, water and waste• Delivering the company’s CSR strategy in Asia covering community development, education, disaster-recovery efforts, alleviating poverty, health and well-being and natural environment• Administering the company’s time bank to allocate paid leave for volunteer work (over 1,600 hours allocated so far since its inception)• Organizing and running the Asia-wide annual leadership conferences for three years running (2010-2013)My other roles include: • Director of Quality, Asia (since 2011)• SE Asia lead for Project Management Development (since 2014)• Program Leader for the Managing AECOM Projects (MAP) Course for Project Managers (since 2012)• Training Director for management skills on AECOM’s School for Continuous Professional Development (since 2012)• Program Director for AECOM’s Asia Leadership Development Conference (since 2010)• Operations Champion for Working Capital Project (since 2013)• Global Representative for Corporate Social Responsibility Asia (since 2013)

The Global Institute for Tomorrow (www.global-inst.com) is an Asian policy think tank and training institute. As executive director, I produced research and policy papers, and conducted executive training courses for private companies and NGOs. I also co-developed a leadership development programme which involved classroom training on corporate governance, business ethics, sustainability, diversity and social responsibility linked to "action projects" through developing social enterprise business plans with rural communities in China and India.

GML (now Boyden Consulting) was a management consulting practice with staff located in offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, specialising in business strategy, organisational development and human resources management. As a company director, I held responsibility for the Hong Kong office and support to China offices in business development and client projects.
