The assessment, documentation, and influences of changes in fauna and flora on coastal processes and quality of life of coastal communities. My focus is the application of marine science and technologies to assess environmental change and guide policy for environmental management, conservation, and development of sustainable commercial marine industries. I support of citizen science through education and outreach as a means of raising public awareness of environmental issues and involvement in ecological research. By teaching simple, rigorous data collection procedures, nonprofessionals can fill significant information gaps in disciplines traditionally receiving low levels of funding.
