About Thomas Tryhane

My business career started on Wall Street in 1982, trading in New York, Chicago, Boca Raton and Pittsburgh. I left in 1996 to trade out of the industry (High Frequency Trading) and pursued missed opportunities including; car sales, general contracting (high end Kitchen & Bath) and playing competitive golf as a hobby. Concentrating on Golf, I acquired a Degree in Golf Management and joined the PGA. Utilizing my business experience gradually took me away from teaching to management and eventually to a General Manager's positions. Thinking "out of the box"​, our team has filmed national TV commercials, radio shows, partnered with local Auto Dealers and even co-hosted with Inbee Park( 1year 3 time Major winner), a ProAm tournament. My desire was to specialize in reversals or distressed golf properties. Successes include Private, Semi-Private, Resort and Tournament courses. My philosophy, in brief, is "Conditions drive Rounds"​.     Project for the Board of The Golf Clubs of California.I managed five of seven properties owned by the partnership "The Golf Clubs of California, LLC. Being tasked with marketing and improving conditions on a case by case basis, we have built teams to focus and improve the bottom line. Typically the property has been left in dis-repair and we create conditions that attract golfers and start a focused marketing campaign to increase rounds. Using weekly goals and task's list, our team has historically witnessed dramatic turn-a-rounds. Most courses boast the finest conditions in town and have had record membership drives. One membership drive produced $150,000 increase over the previous three years. Our Seasonal Resort course opened to 225 rounds at $119 per player and $25k per month in golf shop sales (boasting 44% GP margins). Our team hosted Inbee Parks (three time Major Winner LPGA 2013) Invitational Pro/Am at Rancho California. In one case, it took less than 90 days to have a 10% increase in Facebook "Likes" and over 20 positive comments on GolfNow following 56 negative reviews. I enjoy turn-a-rounds and find them exciting. It has become my niche in this troubled industry.

As the marketing director, my duties included arranging tee times for the students at surrounding golf clubs and conducting tours to visiting applicants. My experience from The Professional Golfers Career College assisted in making this a successful venture.

Average revenue per round rose from $21 to over $34 and rounds increased on a daily basis from under 100 to over 166. Golf shop sales experienced a 100% increase to over $8000 per month.Using Groupon, we raised approx. $40,000 to re-build the bar and grill into a sports bar and saw tournament sales increase from $3000 to over $5000 per event.
