Verifies legitimacy of all mail coming into the prison; intercepts contraband; returns unauthorized mail to senders; processes outgoing inmate mail; answers phone calls from the prison compound and from the public; maintains restricted reading manual with updates from the Literature Review Committee; delivers legal mail inside prison compound to open inmate population; delivers legal mail to inmates in confinement cells; stamps legal mail items; processes legal mail items; maintains legal mail logsheets; provides notary services; submits proper documentation of discrepancies in incoming and outgoing inmate mail; forwards approved parcels to the property sergeant; inspects and checks off on freight deliveries at the warehouse; periodically takes inventory of warehouse goods and supplies; maintains inventory logbooks; ioversees the work of inmates assigned to work in the warehouse, and escorts inmates to and from the prison compound. The Florida Dept. of Corrections transferred me to this position after the elimination by the State of Florida of all professional prison librarian positions.

Managed daily operation of state prison library for 750 inmates; interviewed, evaluated, trained, and supervised inmate certified law clerks and general clerks; verified legality, accuracy, and completion of all inmate requests for legal typing and copying requests; verified filing criteria of applicable court jurisdictions upon submission of inmate copying requests; monitored inmate behavior in library; assisted inmates in the use of the book catalog (Dewey Decimal System); assisted inmates in obtaining needed legal or general information; filled-in at the reference desk and at the legal help desk as needed; co-operated with the classification and security departments in placing suitable inmate clerks in the library; sorted, filed, and retrieved data pertaining to all library functions; submitted daily, monthly, and annual reports; gathered and filed required documents for ACA reports; and judiciously budgeted allocated library funds for the purchase of books and supplies. This professional position was eliminated by the State of Florida, and I was transferred to a Senior Clerk position.
