My proudest academic achievement is to have been awarded an MSc with Distinction in the University of Birmingham's prestigious Nuclear Decommissioning and Waste Management degree programme. In addition, I have also previously completed a BSc with Honours in Physics with Astronomy (at Cardiff University). From a lifelong interest in nuclear-powered vehicles and devices, I endeavour to build a long-term career in the nuclear sector.SUPPORTING SKILLS:• Problem solving: In studying nuclear physics within the context of the decommissioning industry, I am able to apply some very abstract concepts to real world problems. I.e. using 4-D tensors to help solve problems that arise in the field of groundwater flow and transport theory (e.g. movement of pollutants).• Product development: I took the responsibility to lead a design group’s mathematical and research operations, whilst also managing the production of its presentation. We designed a fridge that could maintain sub 4 degrees Celsius temperatures for days without power, whilst also remaining light and portable. After rigorous assessment, our design and presentation achieved a ‘First’.• Production of algorithms: I have written several computer algorithms in both Python and Matlab; those written in Matlab filter out any non-vascular tissue found in medical images acquired from any modality, in order to better facilitate the diagnoses of neuro/cardiovascular diseases. This provided the basis of my 3rd year dissertation, for which I was awarded a ‘First’.• Documented research: I was responsible for the initial planning and writing up of papers on astronomical observations during an attachment to the French Centre d'Astronomie de Saint-Michel-l'Observatoire in Provence. These being collected during 8-hour shifts working on the telescopes between 20:00 and 04:00 each day.• Presentations: Led a group of four that were responsible for constructing a compelling presentation on the Mars Curiosity Rover. The project gained a ‘first’ for that assessment.
