As an Account Reconciliations Team Leader at Genworth, I have the pleasure of managing a team of seven direct reports whose duties include reconciling broker dealer accounts, suspense, and third party administrator accounts. I oversee the team’s annual evaluation, ongoing training, and help them manage to their career path - related development goals. I am responsible for reviewing and evaluating many of my team’s reconciliations for completeness and accuracy. I am personally responsible for the completion of several billion dollar Deferred Acquisition Cost and Insurance Reserve Account reconciliations. In my role as a team leader, I am also tasked with leading and participating in special projects as I am needed and/or directed by senior management (for example, implementing new systems or conducting peer reviews). I constantly provide ideas, input, and feedback to senior management with respect to efficiency, productivity, quality, and process improvement.

• In my role as an Accounting Analyst at Genworth Financial, I took ownership of multiple billion dollar Deferred Acquisition Cost and Insurance Reserve Account reconciliations. During my tenure in this role, I built critical working relationships with insurance actuaries and reconciliation support providers, in order to more effectively facilitate completion of the account reconciliations themselves. I performed quarterly Reserve and Deferred Acquisition Cost account analysis, to include researching account variances and/or erroneous entries. I supported financial quarterly close and external reporting through the accurate and timely completion of over two-hundred account reconciliations. I also lead account reconciliation process improvement and automation efforts, all focused upon the improvement and enhancement of the close process (and ultimately unquestionable attestation to the financial statements).

•In my role as a Financial Analyst at Circuit City Stores, incorporated I was tasked with performing relevant analysis of area spending and results for the entire Merchandising and Supply Chain organizations. I submitted monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting accruals, researched accounting discrepancies, and provided explanations for material variances to budget. I reviewed area spending proposals and submitted them to corporate finance. I also reviewed vendor and third party contracts, proposals and invoices, so as to better serve the finance needs of my internal customers. I assisted my cost centers by planning, preparing and executing plans during the annual budget preparation process (as well as interim updates when they were required). I conducted periodic Profit & Loss statement reviews with business owners (to include explanations for variances to budget, as well as recommendations as to remedy). I also prepared monthly, quarterly, and annual area reports for senior corporate management (to include budget forecasts) up to the Senior Vice President level; I provided input for financial reports that were ultimately viewed at the CFO and CEO level.

While employed at Wachovia Securities, I first worked in a back-office capacity executing trade corrections. I corrected coding and quantity errors, as well as completed daily, weekly, and monthly reporting duties as assigned. I later worked in the Non-Resident Alien Tax Reporting area, processing tax reporting forms, analyzing Non-Resident Alien accounts for discrepancies, and assisting with the review of customer 1099 forms.

As a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, I had the honor of supervising and holding responsibility for the lives of anywhere from ten to twenty marines. I trained my subordinate marines for hand to hand combat and other military duties. I instructed other marines on the use of weapons, marksmanship, and physical fitness. I achieved the rank of Corporal (E-4) in two years, and achieved the rank of Sergeant (E-5) in four.
