Thomas Weida, M.D., a family physician, is Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Chief Medical Officer, and Professor at The University of Alabama, College of Community Health Sciences in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He received his MD degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM), has an ABFM Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatrics and is an AAFP Fellow, an earned degree awarded to family physicians for distinguished service and continuing medical education. He is a former Speaker and Vice Speaker of the AAFP Congress of Delegates, the governing body of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Since 2013 Weida has served as alternate delegate to the AMA Relative Value Update Committee (RUC), is a member of the RUC Subcommittee on Practice Expense, and is on the CPT Assistant Editorial Board. He recently chaired the Payment Core Team for Family Medicine for America’s Health which was dedicated to improving the practice climate for patients and family physicians. His field of expertise is in the area of practice management and he has been a frequent speaker at the STFM Practice Improvement Conference. Weida’s goal is to improve the primary care delivery system and community health in rural Alabama.
