Thomas Wilbur Davis earned his B.S. in General Agriculture from Tubman University in Liberia, and M.S. in Agriculture (Majoring in Horticultural Science) from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Sweden. For his master's studies, Thomas was awarded a scholarship from the prestigious Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP). He is currently a Grad Research Assistant while simultaneously pursuing a Doctor of Plant Health Degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, NE USA. With his broad background in the agricultural sciences, Thomas brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his field. His research interests span various areas of plant health, including vector ecology, plant pathology, and sustainable food & agricultural practices. Thomas has presented his work at several high-level international conferences, authored peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals, and served as a peer-reviewer for several journals. Thomas has also contributed his expertise as a Senior Level Science Research Projects Judge for the 2024 Nebraska Junior Academy of Science - at both state and regional levels. In these roles, Thomas evaluated senior-level research projects to select outstanding projects to represent the State of Nebraska at the 2024 national (USA) research competition in Washington DC.In addition to his research and academic pursuits, Thomas has extensive practical experience in the agricultural sector. He has worked at Splendor Plant AB, one of the largest plant nurseries in Europe, and for over five years, served the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation in Liberia, where he developed and implemented adult literacy and agricultural programs for inmates rehabilitation.Thomas is deeply committed to activism, community service and professional development. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Agriculture & Reconstruction Agency Inc. (ARA) in Liberia, an organization focused on transforming lives through agricultural initiatives, and civic education. He is a member of the American Phytopathological Society, the Southern African Society for Plant Pathology, the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants of the United States, and the Nebraska Academy of Science.Thomas is a recipient of the 2024 Research Travel Award (Grant) from the Warren and Edith Day Fund, University of Nebraska Foundation, and a member of the 2023 Cohort of Bayer Crop Sciences University Mentorship Program for early career scientists at universities across North America.
