While working as the Chief Technology Officer for MAVERIC, we continued building on the foundation of technology that had begun during my previous service there. The largest undertaking was building an HPC and attached storage system that would allow medical research scientists to tap into the large database becoming available from within the VA. This large database would be incrementally grown with the intitiave of the MVP(Million Veteran Program) and the use of data input from five VA Clinical Studies Programs nationally. My responsibilities included suggesting a design of hardware that would be sustainable beyond the five year implementation plan.

As a Systems & Network Manager for MAVERIC, I was involved in implementing or being part of unprecedented advances in the use of current technology within the Clinical Studies Program. These included the use of SharePoint as a tool for receiving form based data, creating a viable platform for video conferencing between study participants within and outside the VA, managing the growth of a network and client server environment that increased in scale from single a server farm to enterprise scale use of hundreds of servers integrating data input on a national level. This was done concurrently while I provided technical support for a growing number of data scientists and clinical program managers.

Hired as a System Admininstrator first, then assumed responsibility as System Manager. Upggraded all of the Sun Microsystem servers in the MTL server room, including hardware, Operating Systems, and licensed Auto-Cad software. Designed and implemented backup and disaster recovery system using AMANDA, an open source application. Maintained and supported department MAC desktop computers, and engineers' Sun Workstations. Installed and maintained SendMail, supporting IMAP and POP services. Performed Unix Sys Admin duties, including writing shell scripts as needed. Built and installed one of the first Windows NT servers and integrated it into the client/server infrastructure at MTL. Hired and trained MIT student interns to assist in supporting the design engineers and administrative staff. Led in Network upgrade from co-axial to industry standard wiring, routers, switches and other hardware to support the network.Wrote shell scripts in(sh,csh,ksh,BASH, tcsh, bourne, fish, and psh) using primarily vi editor, VIM, and emacs.

Bedford, Ma.

Hired as contractor to assist in consolidation of all compute resources within Thinking Machines. Physically migrated from large facility in Chelmsford to a smaller but more modern facility in Bedford. Replaced all of the legacy Sun Microsystem servers with fewer but larger servers. Ported all software applications, sendmail, and data from old systems to new facility. Allowed software engineers and administrative staff to remain operational during the migration process.
