The work was varied and would change from day to day. I gained experience dealing with the police and with angry protestors. My assigned roles vary with the changing security requirements and include:• Searching all vehicles coming on and off site,• Signing vehicles in and out• CCTV monitoring• Maintaining detailed reports of all wagons entering and leaving site.• Making sure all employees were signing in and out correctly• Creating IT systems for employee time recording • Improving and streamlining company processes• Being the central point of contact responsible for controlling all access to the site and ensuring that the correct protocols were followed at all times• Liaising with police• Logistics of the site vehicle operations• Making sure the staff know the correct protocol in all given situations and if not provide training.• Creating new protocols and staff briefings required• Staff management i.e. delegation of tasks, team motivation, organising rotas and supporting a team of 12.

These roles taught me diplomacy, communication and the negotiating skills that are essential to diffuse potentially dangerous situations. I consider myself very successful at this and am able to encourage people to settle their differences peacefully and to help those who are upset by being able to say the right thing at the right time.I was responsible for the on-site team and was frequently praised by the owners of busy town centre businesses for keeping a well organised security team and ensuring crime and disturbances within their venues were kept at a very low level.
