I have a background in machine learning, but decided to join a think tank in Washington, DC because I think that how the government acts with respect to AI will be extremely important. My work focuses on technical grantmaking that could inform and enable effective AI governance solutions. In 2023, I graduated magna cum laude with a BS in computer science from Yale University.I first took an online course in machine learning in 2015, and have been involved in the area ever since. I started working in ML research in 2019 as an intern at NASA, and completed other internships in ML engineering and research at a startup and UC Berkeley. In 2022 during a gap semester from college, I was the first employee at the Center for AI Safety, where I helped with just about everything, including research, communications, and project management. Now, I am on a yearlong fellowship at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology.

This has shaken out into a very reasonable bill.” – Sam Hammond, Foundation for American Innovation“I now think SB 1047 is not a bad bill.” – Charles Foster, Finetune“Some of these revisions have made the bill less bad.” – Andrew Ng“Many changes, including some that were just announced, I see as strict improvements.” – Zvi Mowshowitz“We appreciate the Senator’s collaboration, along with many of the positive changes made throughout the legislative process.” - Mozilla"Overall, SB 1047 is considerably better than it was before—they weakened or clarified many ofthe key regulations." - Representative Zoe Lofgren -
