About Thomas Younger

As far as I can remember, it all started with LEGO’s. Learning how to follow directions and build the cool spaceship on the box was OK. What really excited me was tearing it apart and mixing it up with all the other pieces I had to build anything I could imagine. Then I moved on, attempting (sometimes successfully) to fix broken tools and appliances and learning how to take care of my mountain bike after a muddy ride. I was kind of drawn toward engineering. I enjoy seeing how things are assembled, how they interact as a unit and with other systems. I pride myself on being able to take a step back and look at the big picture, allowing me to be results-oriented, tracking progress, and how I envision success in each situation. I like thinking on my feet, being able to assess and react quickly, sometimes relying a judgement call. With this I have an active lifestyle and in my free time I mountain bike, snowboard, and enjoy keeping myself in shape.Currently I am an aerospace engineer with 6 years experience in rotorcraft design and fabrication. My area of specialty gives me detailed knowledge of rotor components, along with gearbox and drive systems components. I've been able to grow my knowledge quickly by making myself open to working in new roles and projects, assessing team needs and and making an impact immediately. This has allowed me to gain experience in areas from composite structure design to metallic machinings and forgings to designing test structures. I’ve had a range of opportunities including managing a team of engineers maintaining cost and schedule and owning the detailed design and release of aerospace components. I enjoy working closely in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and I relish the opportunity to acquire new skills and form new relationships. I’m also challenging myself and working to broaden my skillset through learning object oriented programming (Java), web design, and software development.
