Optimized / increased automation of assays for:-- Induction and extraction of beta-lactamses in S. marcescens, Enterobacter clinical isolates.-- Initial rate measurement: Nitrocefin hydrolysis with/without b-lactamase inhibitor in presence of beta-lactamase extract under tightly controlled conditions. -- Statistical analysis of results (excel template).-- After trial and error above protocols now reliably produce statistically significant results.

• Managed a transgenic mouse colony for experiments, planned breeding schedules, weaned, genotyped and sexed pups. Performed PCR of mouse tissue and southern blots to determine genotypes. Inoculated several dozen mice with BSL2 bacteria via oral gavage. Inoculated mice via IP injection with a chemically hazardous substance and was trained in the use of proper PPE and respirators. Assisted in tissue harvesting. Kept detailed, accurate, and up to date records about each of hundreds of mice.• Maintained cell cultures of human stem cells for experiments (NCCIT, HCT-116). Started cultures from frozen stocks, observed cell growth, passaged at confluence, prepared and froze down cell stocks for future cultures.• Generated shRNA virus for transfections. Transfected NCCIT cultures with shRNA viruses to knock down specific mismatch repair pathway proteins. Performed several tight chromatin isolations from these knocked down human cell cultures after treatment with hydrogen peroxide. Performed dozens of western blot experiments of the isolate for up to 7 different primary antibodies from the same blot. Treated with IgG secondary and ECL and the HRP/ECL reaction was captured on X-ray film. This was all done in order to determine the binding order of certain MMR proteins in response to super-oxides. • Prepared cell cultures and performed cell cycle arrest procedure via serum starvation. Determined cell cycle via flow cytometry and analyzed the data with FlowJo in order to determine that cell cycle arrest occurred as planned.

Participated in dozens field excursions to collect hemlock needles for research, often on cliff edges and other relatively inaccessible areas.It seems from the data that the isolated eastern hemlock populations in Indiana are remnants of a larger, more ancient population.

Their research focused on late flowering pathways in Arabidopsis and their gene regulation.
