About Thomas Valletta

I enjoy taking web technologies beyond the boundaries of the web. From JavaScript hardware drivers, to intelligent robots, to home automation and physics engines, I derive fulfillment from breaking web technologies out of the browser. A few of my projects are funded by conferences and sponsors (thank you Atlassian), but most are funded by family time and imagination.I also enjoy building amazing web applications. The challenges of web scale, data pipelines, fast search and intermittently connected mobile applications might not be as flashy as rocketry or robotics, the pay is better and I believe that time spent in one makes me better at the other.I take pleasure in presenting at technical conferences. Presentations demos have fueled my most ambitious projects and immovable conference dates are the perfect way to force delivery.     Automate and streamline operations. Create mobile tools for employees in the field. Build a business intelligence and analytics platform. Do cool stuff.Created a near real-time data pipeline for moving data from the Salesforce CRM, Workday HR system and several other sources into Oracle and an elastic search index. The pipeline used AWS Kinesis, Dynamo, and Lambda along with Node servers to move the data.Created a mobile tool that allowed site surveyors capture and send hundreds of megabytes of survey data validating every potential solar customer. The browser based tool eventually synced all the data offline.Created a system that would evaluate all sales and sales related data to calculate sales commissions. This system replaced an inaccurate predecessor saving the company hundreds of thousand of dollars every quarter in over payments.Created the Virtual Private Networks, servers, databases, security groups, search indexes and data pipelines for Vivint Solar.
