Concept exploration and early concept development engineering for the Space Systems Division (SSD) at Blue Origin

Founded the Payloads Systems Development Program within Blue Origin to standardized and streamline all individual Payloads development efforts within the programs of ADP which consolidate development resources and lowered the overall industry infrastructure costs.Designed and demonstrated Payloads hardware architecture for the integrated 28V Electrical Power, Ethernet & RS422 Communication and 1600W Forced Air/Coldplate Thermal Management systems. Significantly reducing weight and energy consumption.Conducted payloads market research campaign in cooperation with Arizona State University and MIT Media Labs to inform techno-economic analysis and identify potential emerging customer payloads opportunities. Resulting in multiple payloads mission customer acquisitions. Architected a new development and manufacturing methodology to accelerate flight-ready hardware production and parallelize prototype testing efforts while meeting NASA quality standards. Developed technical leadership strategies for Blue Origin’s first start up accelerator "Reef Starter" in tandem with the ADP’s business development unit. Delivered full project scope road map and technical program plan (including all projected labor and non-labor development efforts) which forecasted manufacturing/integration costs and post-launch payloads management/operation. Led development of the first customer-facing payloads portal, which allows individual customers to pull live data, view payloads experiments, upload commands ,and perform active troubleshooting with Blue Origin Flight Controller Staff (Public Deployment Q4 2024). Completed a fully functioning Payloads flight-ready bench-top module (Iron Bird) to conduct simulated operational flight testing for power, communications, and thermal management.

Responsible for the successful conceptualization, electrical design, process development, technician training, system install and deployment of a 254 Node, 24 DAQ Strain Gauge metrology system for use in both static and dynamic structural loads validation, flight certification and real-time structural health display for pilots.Oversaw the flight vehicle’s Critical Asset Monitoring System (CAMS) from initial concept design to successful deployment and integration as a Technical Project Manager. The project’s target criteria include system architecture, detailed mass budget allocation, power integration and mechanical manufacturing in response to rapid adaptation in critical late-stage operational mission profile changes.Improved critical attributes and performance of original Helium Venting mechanisms. This resulted in increased motor reliability, power efficiency, state sensor accuracy and allowed for anti-icing and Emergency control capabilities in the case of total flight vehicle power failureDesigned the primary control system hardware architecture and operational ’end-user’ pilot GUI for the flight vehicle. As well as oversaw the contracted development of all Fuel Transfer, Flight Trim and Helium Venting system construction.Collaborated with Soft Structures and Materials teams in designing a large-scale integrated metrology system to optimize Helium gas cell pressure, slosh factor, temperature, Lidar scanned volume, leak rate, and operational critical health.Accelerated propulsion system testing and validation process by over 4 weeks through constructing novel propeller pitch adjustment mechanisms, standardized measurement procedures and custom CAN bus configured metrology tooling to integrate with existing EMDrive motor control software.Coordinated development and testing campaign of the flight vehicle’s primary Silicon100kW and secondary CIGS10kW solar array architecture to supply propulsion (high power) and Gondola (low power) busses respectively.

Led large multidisciplinary team to design, develop, and manufacture Hyperloop Pod for 2018 SpaceX Hyperloop Competition.Created detailed multistage system integration methodology for both mechanical and electrical systems to ensure each Hyperloop Pod component was both commercially scalable and able to functionally perform within the extreme environmental, thermal, and high speed operational parameters of the vacuum tube.Developed custom EMI/RFI rated power, control and communication system layout and physical wire harnessing. Harnesses were designed, manufactured, and tested in close compliance with MIL-STD-461E and IPC-A-610 Rev. G due to the high EMI potential of the four Hallbach oriented magnetic levitation engines. Constructed novel rotary Hallbach based magnetic propulsion and levitation engine and DC motor method to decrease necessary operating power consumption and increase levitation height.Assembled both robust mechanical and electrical control systems for reactive stability and propulsion.Drafted initial battery management system designs and led rigorous testing and validation campaign for thermal management and powertrain systems.Conceptualized and manufactured a physical testing chamber to perform validation and experimentation on several levitation engine proto-types under various thermal, environmental, and field conduction conditions.
