Hamrick is an OEM of automated case packaging equipment, along with related product lines such as case sealers and case erectors. As engineering manager, I directed a crew of designer / detailers, shop electricians and the field service crew. I oversaw all aspects of the control system design and build process as well as providing training in-house for our technical crew and customers. To maintain a competitive edge in the OEM market, we continually strived to adopt leading-edge technology in our control schemes. . It was during my tenure at Hamrick that I developed the "nuts and bolts" experience with motion and drive systems in packaging applications.

Nutro Machinery is a manufacturer of custom finishing and application systems serving the automotive, aerospace and metalworking industries. We provided integrated, "turn-key" solutions for high-volume application of paints and coatings while maintaining adherence to environmental emission standards or regulations. As a staff engineer at Nutro, I was assigned project responsibility from conception through implementation and installation. I developed a team approach that integrated the best ideas from our engineering, fabrication and installation groups to ensure projects met time and budget constraints. Many of the projects that I managed represented a multi-million dollar investment for our customers. My key focus was to maximize the cost / benefit ratio of the control and automation systems required for the project. In addition, I provided on-site startup and commissioning services as well as ongoing systems support for the life of the project.

Provided on-site technical support for the United States Transmission Systems division of ITT, a private line domestic microwave network serving the financial and data communications industries from its hub located in lower Manhattan. Coordinated service installation between the NYNEX telco and USTS operations, as well as installation and configuration of essential site equipment required for interfacing with the customer’s PBX and datacomm facilities.

Originally I was hired in as a panel-builder and parts manager. However, over the years my responsibilities grew to full engineering support for both electrical and mechanical systems used in customized high-speed bulk packaging equipment. I provided extensive field service to our integrated packaging lines as well as providing customer training and phone support. I was able to introduce the first PLC-controlled system in the company's history, and oversaw the eventual conversion of all of our equipment from electromechanical (relay-based) control to PLCs.
