As the technical lead on developments for XXL monopiles, I focus on novel installation techniques and alternative foundation concepts to drive progress in the offshore wind industry.

Working on technical challenges in the energy transition with focus on offshore wind:Developed a map-based method for Cable Burial Risk Assessment for offshore wind farms. Risk maps generated with this new method give insight in the relationship between the striking risk by an anchor and the cable trajectories for different burial depths. The method is less conservative than the commonly used Carbon Trust method, and often leads to a lower required burial depth and therefore significant cost reduction.Technical project leader of the Joint Industry Project "Hydraulic Pile Extraction Scale Test": developed a novel decommissioning method of monopiles for offshore wind turbines towards TRL 6. Experimental work with strong focus on practical implementation.

Project leader for innovation and development projects for offshore construction and decommissioning:Reduction of underwater noise pollution due to offshore pile driving. Developed a numerical model providing insight in key drivers for underwater noise due to pile driving. Based on the model outcomes we identified promising noise mitigation methods, where pile driving noise was reduced without compromising driveability. Model was validated with offshore measurement campaign and it showed the most accurate noise level predictions in an international benchmark study.

Lead of a multi-year knowledge development program to enable safe and reliable installation of ultra-heavy pipelines in ultra deep water by means of tensioners and friction clamps (focus on dealing with creep of thermal insulation coatings). Designed and led numerous physical experiments - small-scale up to full-scale - to support technical challenges for tenders, as well as for project qualification. Implemented the results into offshore installation methodologies and procedures. Other topics: reeling of pipelines including certification, optimizing induction heating processes and thermal insulation systems.

MSc Project: Development of a computer model to support, understand and improve the experimental work on nanotube quantum dots being performed at the Quantum Transport group at Delft University of Technology. The work was partly carried out at Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Cambridge MA, USA.
