Working as a bank healthcare assistant ad-hoc in both of NuTH's hospital sites across a range of care settings delivering personal care and monitoring to patients as part of the nursing team.

Assisting with Data Analytics for a Telehealth Start-Up to help meet the demands of significant growth during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I was working as a research intern in Peter Taylor and Yujiang Wang's lab (www.cnnp-lab.com) funded by the Wellcome Trust, looking to improve Focal Epilepsy resection surgery outcomes by improving epileptogenic region prediction through computational modelling of dysfunctional brain connectivity networks. This computational approach uses connectivity inferred through inter-ictal (outwith seizures) brain activity using Electrocorticography, thus reducing the need to observe ictal (seizure) events which may be rare.

I worked in a small team on the implementation of a Big Data analytics platform to improve analysis capability. I developed, extended and refactored new and existing software solutions to aid their adoption into the platform - developing skills in C, C++, MATLAB and the Apache Hadoop ecosystem including HDFS, Oozie, Avro and Parquet.As part of this work, I produced a new XML-based, schema-restricted data description language for internal data enabling wider free/libre and open source software uptake and better internal tooling compatibility. This included developing a logical description language, allowing complex Boolean logic to be described in an XML attribute with values injected from elsewhere.I additionally contributed the implementation of an optimised tree pruning data search algorithm, which was able to identify the type and location of protocol-tunneled packets in a serialised binary stream in O(log n) time.

I completed 2 weeks of work experience, during which I adapted a previously designed website to function with a proprietary CMS system and additionally updated email templates to work with the same software suite. This allowed me to develop my HTML and CSS scripting skills and gain insight into Software Engineering in industry.

I worked on the Operations section. This role involved a mixture of practical and technical competencies, ranging from managing dated stock on the shop floor, auditing stock stored in the warehouse, testing and verifying fire safety equipment and handing customer queries either in person or over the telephone.
