Thomas B. Kaufmann is the Founder & Chief Technology Officer of OTOjOY. As a technologist and accessibility consultant, he works at the forefront of developing and integrating novel as well as established assistive technologies into society. With post-graduate degrees in Physics (University of Bonn, Germany, 2010) and Chemistry (University of California, Santa Barbara, 2012), Thomas brings a rigorous scientific background to this role.His inventions have garnered international recognition and have been honored with a CES Innovation Award and an Edison Award. Thomas is also a contributing member of Technical Committee 29 (Electroacoustics) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), where his work focuses on hearing aids and hearing loop systems.As a PhD candidate at Arizona State University (ASU), Thomas’s research delves into Auditory & Language Neuroscience. He is breaking new ground with brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). His newest invention aims to offer a voice to individuals with complete paralysis, enabling them to speak, sing, and play musical instruments, even after losing the ability to use eye-tracking devices.Drawing inspiration from the serene desert landscape, Thomas has made Phoenix, Arizona his home, where he shares his passions for music, art, food, and innovation with his partner Lucy and his two cats, Bug and DaVinci.
