Engineer To Chief Engineer
Columbus, Indiana; Daventry England
Worked my way up through the engineering/technical and engineer/management ranks within the world's largest independent engine design, development and manufacturing. The early years were spent as an individual contributor, analyst primarily focusing on heat transfer and fluid mechanics as it related to key engine systems.Since that time I became an engine development engineer at various level and eventually moved into the management ranks. In 1994 I moved to Daventry England as the Chief Engineer of a new product launch, the QSK 45/60. I was responsible for over 200 technical resources on 3 continents and in 5 physical locations. One of the early challenges was quality information flow of all technical specifications and developing a team identity to allow all individuals to contribute to the goal. Although the systems were at their infancy, the team embraced the use of regular video conferencing sessions for all subsystem teams’ to successfully design, procure and qualify the 2000+ individual components to build the first QSK 60 liter, prototype engine. This role, for me was one of the best of my career. The project offered myself and all the team members a unique opportunity to engage with colleagues around the world and intimately be involve in a once in a career, international, new product introduction program that ultimately became a very successful product.
