About Thomas Budd

I am pursuing doctoral studies at Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) School of Resource and Environmental Management and hold a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Masters in Resource Management. I am a member of the SFU Energy and Materials Research Group (EMRG) which conducts research in sustainable energy systems to develop relevant economic policy proposals for powering a sustainable future. My research expertise includes the use and design of Energy Economy Emissions models for multiple sectors including Emission Intensive and Trade Exposed (EITE) industries, transportation, residential and commercial buildings, and the spatial aspects of land use in relation to urban energy systems. My PhD thesis will explore how innovation supporting policies and international trade agreements can assist in decarbonizing industry while mitigating carbon leakage and protecting domestic employment opportunities.I am looking forward to using my interdisciplinary training to continue in an academic career of research and policy-making that will contribute to the betterment of our local and global communities.
