My family says my legal career started when I won my first trial as a criminal defense attorney in a trespassing trial. The venue was my third-grade school play, and my client was Ralph S. Mouse from Beverly Cleary's "The Mouse and the Motorcycle." In reality, my route to the courtroom after law school was circuitous. I caught the political bug in 2007 as an intern for a powerful conservative Democrat on Capitol Hill. Over the next fifteen years, I would work on 35 campaigns in 13 states, serve as chief of staff to prominent elected officials, and advocate for a wide range of bills and regulations in Washington and Austin. My legal practice focused on helping cities, counties and electric utilities navigate the Texas government codes, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and ERCOT Reliability Standards.A mid-life course correction brought me back to the courtroom. I currently represent seriously injured plaintiffs in lawsuits against trucking companies and survivors of cataclysmic vehicle collisions. The highlights of my personal injury practice have been trying three cases to verdict as first chair, four six-figure settlements in premises liability cases, and the opportunity to work with the Tough, Smart Lawyers at Jim S.
