As Head of Legal I am responsible for creating solutions for both legal and compliance issues which allow my employer to continue its path of success without too many distractions. My principal role is to retrofit strict legal requirements in to the day to day operations of our successful commercial enterprise. I must then ensure those solutions are accepted by my colleagues and other stakeholders.Aims:Understand the risks;Be efficient;Be concise;Add value and be commercial;Achieve closure.Experience I spent 6 years in private practice as a commercial and litigation solicitor advising companies on contractual matters and the resolution of disputes. In 2011 I moved in-house as Company Solicitor for the Qdime Group. In 2012 I was made a Director within the Group. From 2013 my title has been Head of Legal. Projects In 2012/ 2013 I led the Qdime Group in forming the first inter-group multi-disciplinary legal practice ever to be regulated by the SRA as an alternative business structure. This is more exciting than it sounds (... or not!). In summary, we took some functions of the existing in-house legal department, broke them out and obtained regulation to allow this entity to sell legal services to non-group companies. We created a new profit centre from existing functions. In 2014 I designed and ran a significant project for a number of national utility companies; building a system to efficiently process thousands of urgent legal papers through the Courts. The motive was to obtain urgent access to hundreds of private properties as a result of a need for remedial works which had been prescribed by the HSE. We achieved the objective which, as far as we are aware, on this scale is a legal first. OversightI am part of the Groups management team and I oversee a team of 8/ 10 in our legal department.
