Director Of Software EngineeringGartner Apr 2022 - PresentStamford, Ct, UsWorking with inspiring leadership to nurture an ongoing environment of mentorship and internal advancement with rapid team skill growth and application development. Over the last few years, I have worked at Gartner to develop and foster a team of dedicated individuals who mentor each other, have a shared sense of responsibility and ownership around products and features, and are constantly working to learn new things and tackle fun problems. We stress a lot of paired programming and hire the most curious people we can find.We are continuing to iterate on creating highly performant, core web vitals measured, inspired UX designed web applications hosted in scaled AWS environments deployed with IAC. We have standardized on terraform deployments and EKS hosted SSR Next.js builds while exploring Amplify deployments, serverless, localhost, and all available methodologies to create the right combination for both fun and performant development. The goals are always to increase time spent enjoying coding, decrease anxiety and stress, maximize a sense of shared belonging, and keep a culture where everyone is a teacher and a student. By constantly growing the people around them, everyone on the team experiences growth technically, socially, and with purpose and giving back to others. -
Software Engineering ManagerGartner Sep 2019 - Apr 2022Stamford, Ct, UsLeading two teams of amazing engineers iterating on highly performant Next.JS applications. We develop rapid prototypes, iterate quickly to production applications within 2 sprints, develop our own APIs, pair-program often, and collaborate toward awesomeness.Using full CI/CD pipelines with Vercel branch deployments, EKS and Docker swarm production deployments, and constantly iterating to find the highest performance of SSR, SSG, and ISSG rendering for optimal performance. Currently standardizing on AppSync to develop new GraphQL APIs with Typescript lambda functions, Building rapid components in React while supporting legacy applications in Angular 13, server side node rendering, NGRX, test-driven development, Jest, e2e automation, progressive web apps, SEO, Server-less architecture, Amplify, Cognito, DynamoDB, and general API development. -
Lead Software EngineerGartner Jan 2019 - Sep 2019Stamford, Ct, UsLeading a team of amazing engineers to reduce production bugs to near-zero in a server side Angular application by introducing NGRX, RXJS and Jest unit testing coverage, teaching observable patterns, and working with QA to establish thorough end to end tests.By iterating quickly on SSR Angular with established order of operations, systemized debugging, and pagespeed scores, we were able to identify areas where we could improve application performance by beginning to move toward a React framework and micro-UIs. Led a number of initiatives to further usage of terraform, lambda, lambda@edge, s3, SNS, SQS, RDS, Dynamo, and other AWS services. Utilized Jenkins, Portainer, Git Actions, and Docker swarm for pipeline and deployment systems. -
Senior Software EngineerSilvercar Nov 2017 - Dec 2018Austin, Texas, UsI was brought in to bring the company's front-end applications out of AngularJS 1.4 and into the modern reactive era. Within the first month of working for the company, I helped them modify older applications to enable Silvercar to rent out Q5 vehicles, drastically increasing revenue. Immediately afterward, I rewrote a proof of concept of the rental car booking application entirely in Angular5 with NGRX. We then proceeded to rewrite the entire application in React with Redux. Before I began, the old application had no unit tests. The new React application has 62% unit test coverage and was completed within 6 months. I also built it to be mobile responsive. I then proceeded to rewrite internal tools necessary for managing the Silvercar fleet entirely in Angular7, NGRX, and RxJS with unit test coverage of >70% including one application for managing promotion codes which was rewritten in a month and a second, larger application which was released just this month.Developing cutting edge Angular7/ NGRX/ RxJS and React/ Redux/ Redux Thunk applications.Highly test driven with unit and e2e testing. Creating new designs and lifting and shifting old technology out of Angular 1.4 applications. Creating full responsive web applications with reactive technology and strong APIs. -
